The Story of Athen Rye: Sheldon DeDieu, Kevin Kelly, and John Donovan

Back in the early 2000s, Sheldon DeDieu (vocals/12 string Guitar), Kevin Kelly (vocals/guitars), and John Donovan (vocals/bass) came together to form a band built around Sheldon’s vast repertoire of classic Country & East Coast songs. Our sound was raw, energetic, and packed with rich harmonies.

Recording was no cheap feat back then, but we managed to scrape together enough resources to cut a solid demo that captured the true energy of our live show—and we pushed it out into the world.

In true (folk?) rock-and-roll fashion, the band broke up on the very night of the CD release party. For years, the record and Athen Rye's version of these songs seemed lost to time... until now.  We had a limited run of CDs and Social Media / online presence didnt really exist at the time although MySpace was right around the corner...
